Sixth Journey of Understanding
After the recent Diversity in London it was back to International programmes with the Sixth Journey of Understanding.
On Sunday 9th December, 22 young people from the UK, America, Israel, the Palestinian Territories and Indonesia met for the first time at Lea Valley YHA just outside London. This group would be the latest to travel to Aberdovey for a week of innovative outward bound activities and discussion workshops aimed at encouraging cross cultural understanding. In that respect the programme was a fantastic success with participants coming away with profound understanding of issues that they had arrived knowing little about.
The end of the programme was marked by a reception at St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace. There the group was joined by Alex Braden, supporters and partners of Encompass and Gill Hicks, a survivor of the 7/7 terror attacks and now Ambassador for Peace. Gill has been involved with a number of Encompass programmes, and her message about the value of life and living that really struck a chord with those present.
