The Fifth Encompass Journey of Understanding
The Fifth Encompass Journey of Understanding took place from 18-26 February at the Outward Bound® center in Aberdovey, Wales.
Twenty-four participants gathered from Indonesia, Isael, the Palestinian Territories, the UK, and the United States for nine days of challenging teambuilding. These young people spent long mornings and afternoons overcoming the cold, rainy, gray weather of the Welsh coast to tackle difficult but rewarding outdoor activities, such as sea kayaking and rock climbing. During the evening, participants joined in often intense discussions about identity, conflict, prejudice, and global issues.
Participants left the UK on Monday satisfied from the challenges they overcame during the week. Tears were shed and email addresses were exchanged as participants – who were strangers at the beginning of the week – parted as friends.
Overall, the program was a success.
