Autumn Newsletter 2005

2005 has been an exciting time for Encompass. We have run our fifth and sixth programs- the first Journey of Understanding and the fifth Voyage of Understanding, as well as a Dragon Boat Regatta fundraiser which will be repeated next year. Jun Hirst has stepped down as Director of Encompass and has been replaced by Josh Cass and Louise Ware who now take on the responsibility of the day-to-day running of the charity as well as it’s long-term growth. Our website has also been radically made-over by our Webmaster, Gus MacKirdy. New content and an exciting and clear new layout have been added. Perhaps, when you have finished reading the newsletter, you can spend a few minutes exploring the new site. All this and much more!
Plans are also being made for 2006. In April we will be running our second Journey of Understanding in association with Giving Nation. A group of young people representing the UK, the US, Israel, the Palestinian Territories and Iraq will travel together to the Lake District to explore issues of cultural understanding and tolerance in the challenging and exciting environment provided by Outward Bound UK. There is also funding available for further programs in 2006 and we are looking at expanding the range of programs that we run as well.
Encompass is now into its third year of operation –and it is you who has made it possible for Encompass to empower young people from all over the world to tackle intolerance and cultural misunderstandings. We thank you for your generous funding, time, ideas, practical help and your special skills and hope that your enthusiasm will extend to signing up a team for a day of fundraising by racing Dragon Boats in the River Thames this July!
Hope to see you at the races!
